Greetings!  This is the interview that I did for the podcast activity.  First, I apologize, I am a little over 5 minutes; however, I don't have any software that will allow me to edit it.

I interviewed an instructor from Graceland University named Libby.  Libby is an elementary school teacher who also teaches adults how to teach children to read.  Libby is a seasoned educator who has seen many technologies come into classrooms.

  1. Hi Roy, nice video and good discussion. You raised several good issues in your discussion. Access will always be a concern. Although I agree with your interviewee that a kindergartener has many tangible skills necessary, incorporating technology with a real purpose at a young age is still desirable. That child will live in a world very different than the one I live in today, so we must prepare them as much as we can anticipate. Budgets for technology in schools must be a priority. I know several schools that use their fundraising efforts to subsidize technology.

    Great job on the video.

  3. Hi Roy. You did a great job on the interview. I heard my interviewee express the same concern as yours. Libby said that technology cannot substitute for good teaching (paraphrased from memory). My interviewee said that we should not rely solely on technology to substitute for skilled instruction because it cripples instructors, particularly when things malfunction. I agree! Technology is wonderful to supplement learning, but people best learn from personal interaction.

  4. Hi Roy,

Echoing Vianne and Tonya's comments, you conducted a good interview. It was natural and engaging, and drew out some honest and valuable observations from Libby's experiences.

Just out of curiosity, who was operating the camera for you? Although you weren't able to edit the video, zooming and shifting between views of both of you or just Libby was pretty effective.

  5. Interesting, podcast, Joe. I can tell you put thought and effort into your questions in order to not only engage the interviewee and the learner.

I found value in the comments Libby made regarding the importance of not allowing technology to interfer with the actual act of learning; not take place of the personal interaction and the true "art" of teaching.

    Nice job.

    Keep up the great work.

Best of luck to you in the future.
